FAQ
What is Egyptian Blue Lotus?
Egyptian Blue Lotus (Nymphaea caerulea) is a water lily with a long history of association with ancient Egypt. The flower has traditionally been connected with dreams, rebirth, transformation and relaxation.
At URTH BLÜM , we love experiencing the flower as a whole, its fragrance, flavor, presence, and the sense of slowing down that it can invite.
Is Egyptian Blue Lotus the same as Blue Lotus?
Not necessarily. “Blue Lotus” is a common name that can refer to different water lilies. Our flower is True Egyptian Blue water Lilie, Nymphaea caerulea.
We believe botanical identity matters, especially because not every flower sold as “Blue Lotus” is the same species.
Does Egyptian Blue Lotus support deeper or more vivid dreams?
Many people enjoy Blue Lotus in the evening as part of a slow, restful ritual. Some people report more vivid or memorable dreams, while others simply notice a greater sense of relaxation.
Everyone experiences the flower differently, and we don’t consider a particular dream experience guaranteed.
Does Blue Lotus help with sleep?
Blue Lotus has traditionally been enjoyed as an evening flower and is often associated with relaxation and rest.
We prefer to think of it less as a “sleep aid” and more as a flower that can create space for stillness, rest, and the transition into the dream space.
What does Blue Lotus tea feel like?
Tea is one of the simplest ways to experience the flower.
You may notice its soft floral aroma and flavor first, followed by a sense of slowing down or relaxation. Some people describe feeling more inward, dreamy, or settled.
There is no single “correct” Blue Lotus experience. Sometimes the beauty is simply in slowing down enough to notice.
Why make a tincture instead of simply drinking the flowers as a tea?
The way a plant is prepared changes what we are able to draw from it.
Tea allows us to experience the flower through a simple water infusion, while our tincture uses a slow, extended extraction process to explore a broader range of the plant’s constituents.
For us, tincturing isn’t about making the flower “better.” It’s another way of working with the plant and experiencing its deeper character.
What makes tea and tincture different?
Tea and tincture are two different ways of experiencing the same flower.
Tea is a water-based preparation that brings forward the flower’s flavor, aroma, and water-extractable constituents. A tincture uses alcohol as an extraction medium, which allows us to extract different constituents from the plant.
Neither is simply better than the other. They offer different expressions of the same flower.
What are we actually experiencing when we drink Blue Lotus?
Blue Lotus contains many naturally occurring plant compounds and other constituents.
But a flower is more than any one compound.
When you drink Blue Lotus, you’re experiencing the aroma, flavor, plant compounds, and the sensory experience of the flower as a whole. For us, that relationship with the whole plant is just as important as understanding its individual constituents.
Why does the way we prepare Blue Lotus matter?
Different preparation methods draw different constituents from a plant.
Water and alcohol interact with plant material differently, which means a cup of tea and an alcohol-based tincture aren’t chemically identical preparations.
This is why we approach extraction intentionally rather than treating every form of Blue Lotus as interchangeable.
What makes your tincture spagyric?
Spagyric is an old alchemical method of working with plants that goes beyond a conventional herbal extraction.
Our process includes extracting the plant, processing the spent plant material, and returning its mineral component to the preparation.
For us, it’s a way of working with the plant as a whole, rather than focusing solely on one isolated constituent.
Does Blue Lotus contain caffeine?
No. Egyptian Blue Lotus is naturally caffeine-free.
Does Blue Lotus contain THC or cannabis?
No. Egyptian Blue Lotus is a completely different plant and does not contain THC or cannabis.
Can I use Blue Lotus while pregnant or breastfeeding?
There isn’t enough reliable research establishing Egyptian Blue Lotus as safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Because of the lack of safety data, we recommend avoiding Blue Lotus during pregnancy and breastfeeding unless your healthcare provider specifically advises otherwise.
Can children use Egyptian Blue Lotus?
We don’t recommend Blue Lotus for children. There isn’t sufficient research establishing appropriate dosing or safety.
Can I take Blue Lotus with medications?

Do you sell live Blue Lotus plants or seeds?
Not at this time.
We are currently focused on our small-batch Blue Lotus preparations and our own relationship with growing the flower.
We hope to offer plants and/or seeds in the future as our growing journey continues.
Do you offer wholesale?
Not at this time.
We are intentionally keeping URTH BLÜM small-batch and family-led, allowing us to stay close to every part of the process.
If wholesale becomes something we offer in the future, we’ll announce it here.
Can I smoke your dried blue lotus?
Our blue lotus is sold as a botanical tea for steeping. It is not intended for smoking, and we don't recommend or provide guidance on smoking it. There is no safety research on inhaling blue lotus. Some people choose to use it other ways, but we can't advise on that and it's at your own discretion and risk.

Yes. International orders may be subject to import duties, taxes, or customs fees set by the destination country. These charges are the responsibility of the recipient and are non-refundable. If you're unsure what applies to you, we recommend checking with your local customs office before ordering.
